If you are applying under the “NRI quota,” the certificate is given to Indian passport holders for educational purposes and is necessary for admission to Indian colleges.

What is an NRI certificate?

You must submit the NRI certificate to satisfy one of the conditions of the NRI quota at some colleges and higher education institutions in India in order to be admitted to the university.

According to BLS International Services UAE, the official outsourcing service provider for the Consulate General of India (CGI), the NRI certificate is only given to NRIs who have not:

  • haven’t obtained the citizenship of any other country
  • haven’t spent more than six months outside the UAE in a single year.

How do I apply for the NRI certificate in UAE?

  1. Step 1: Visit a BLS centre and ask for the EAP II form

You must visit one of the BLS service centers, the locations of which are shown below, to apply for the certificate. Ask for the EAP II form (Application Form For Miscellaneous Services On Indian Passport), which is free, once you arrive at the center.

  2. Step 2: Provide the required documents

    • Recent images on a white background.
    • A genuine passport that is at least six months old.
    • Copies of the passports of the parents of youngsters (those under the age of 18).
    • A valid Emirates ID card or a UAE driver’s license, or another form of documentation proving your residency in the UAE
    • A statement confirming the applicant did not spend more than 182 days in India during the preceding fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31, 2023.To establish the physical identification, the applicant must be present, so you must be present at the center when you apply. The applicant’s residency visa must be valid for at least two years, it is vital to remember. If you live in Abu Dhabi, you must additionally apply for a sworn affidavit from IVS Global, which performs attestation and consular services for the Indian Embassy in the UAE. This document must be signed by the applicant in front of a consular officer. Your sponsor (parent) will submit an application for an affidavit declaring that you are a resident of Abu Dhabi and are under their sponsorship.
  3. Step 3: Pay the fees

    • Service cost of Dh95.
    • Dh9 – Optional service cost for BLS courier
    • Dh490 if you visited one of the upscale BLS lounges.
    • Dh250 – if you applied through a standard BLS centre.

  4. Processing time

The certificate will be issued in five working days, according to BLS. It’s crucial to remember that the Indian Consulate General in Dubai (CGI) has the final say on the processing time. Once it’s finished, an SMS will be sent to you to let you know.

Your passport will be kept by the center throughout this period. You will receive your passport back after the NRI certificate is issued. The certificate and your passport may be picked up at the BLS center, or you may arrange for separate delivery to your residence.
